To stay relevant and ensure alignment with the evolving skills and knowledge needed by management accounting professionals, the Institute of Management Accounting (IMA) is implementing changes to the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Exam. These updates reflect the results of a recent job analysis study conducted by the IMA and a commitment to ensuring that CMAs possess the competencies required to excel in today’s workplace.
What Are the Changes?
While the structure of the CMA Exam remains the same, certain topics are being adjusted or renamed within the existing competencies. These modifications are aimed at enhancing the exam’s focus on areas crucial for success in management accounting roles.
When Do the CMA Exam Changes Go Into Effect?
Starting September 1, 2024, the updated CMA Exam will be administered. It’s essential to note the testing windows for both parts of the exam:
- January 1 → February 29
- May 1 → June 30
- September 1 → October 31.
In other words, the last opportunity to take the current exam is June 30, 2024.
What To Do?
Rest assured despite the changes, the core structure of the exam remains largely unchanged. This means that candidates can proceed with their studies confidently, knowing that the majority of the exam content remains consistent. It’s advisable to start preparing early to familiarize yourself with the updates.
