In the dynamic world of accounting, staying ahead of the curve is essential for aspiring professionals. Why? Well, the global and biggest accounting firms including KPMG, E&Y, PWC and Deloitte are directing their accounting job vacancies towards non-accountants. The reason behind that is quite clear, the required skills are evolving. As the business landscape evolves, so must the requirements for becoming a US Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In this rapidly changing environment, the importance of the US CPA exam changes cannot be overstated. If you’re a current student, graduating in 2023 or later, or a working professional feeling overwhelmed with the CPA changes, here’s our simple advice to you.

Simply put, take your BEC now!

Why start your BEC prep now?

The BEC (Business Environment and Concepts) part of the CPA exam has undergone significant changes. Instead of being obligated to take the BEC exam, you can now commit to one of the three new discipline tracks that align with the evolving needs of the CPA profession while the other core parts (FAR, REG and AUD) remain the same.

These new disciplines, known as Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR), Information Systems and Controls (ISC), and Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP), represent the three pillars of the CPA profession. Each discipline track focuses on a specific area of expertise that is crucial for accountants to excel in their roles.

BAR
Business Analysis and Reporting

The BAR track emphasizes the ability to analyze and report on complex business data, enabling accountants to provide valuable insights to stakeholders.

ISC
Information Systems and Controls

The ISC track delves into the realm of information systems and controls, equipping accountants with the necessary skills to navigate and safeguard data in an increasingly digital landscape.

TCP
Tax Compliance and Planning

The TCP track focuses on tax compliance and planning, enabling accountants to navigate the intricacies of tax regulations and develop effective strategies for their clients.

These tracks are perfect for students who are eager to venture into the exciting realm of on-demand accounting skills. However, if you are currently enrolled in the CPA program or planning to begin your CPA journey, and you wish to avoid the upcoming changes to the CPA exam in 2024, we highly recommend that you start preparing for the Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) section and complete it before December 15, 2023. Taking this proactive step will allow you to bypass the modifications and ensure a smoother path towards achieving your CPA certification.
