Do I need to be a member of the state society or AICPA to sit for the exam?

It might not be a legal requirement, but we highly recommend it as a practical requirement. Being a member of AICPA offers significant benefits, including discounts on products and services, and accounting industry updates. In addition to its website, the AICPA publishes a monthly Journal of Accountancy and optional daily newsletters to keep you up to date. Joining your relevant state society of CPAs also provides many benefits including keeping you up to date, and arranging continuing professional education, among others. CPAs who are also members of AICPA are required to complete 120 hours of continuing professional education in each three-year reporting period to maintain their CPA license.
