Want to know what it takes to be a certified marketer… three times round? Well, twice to be accurate with the third credential well on the way.

We sat with one of our favorite (and most regular) students in Lebanon, Ms. Nivine Moussa for a quick chat about the marketing world and why she chose to embark on a three-certification journey.

A marketing calling

Business has always been a topic of great interest to me, every since I was 10 years old. I grew up watching interviews with CEOs and marketing experts on TV and was so attracted to the concept of marketing that I ended up selecting that as my Bachelor's Degree emphasis. One professor in particular had a very big impact on the way I saw and understood marketing, by  showing me how marketing had the power to shape industries and businesses my dreams and career direction had been shaped forever.

Why three certifications?

The Professional Diploma in Marketing (by the Chartered Institute of Marketing) was the first certification program I enrolled in at Morgan. I had just completed my BA and was noticing the harsh competition in the job market and so wanted to gain a competitive advantage. I was impressed by the course material and the outcome. Experiencing a UK qualification tickled my curiosity and so I decided to pursue the Professional Certified Marketer (PCM) program by the American Marketing Association to experience and gain a U.S. credential. As for the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing by the Digital Marketing Institute, it is an absolute must for every marketer to be well versed in digital marketing, we are moving into a digital business approach, and marketers should be on top of the latest trends if they want to stay relevant and ahead of their game. I have passed both the PDIM and PDDM exams and am currently getting ready to sit for my third credential, the PCM exam.

The impact of three credentials on a career

I can now consider myself on the fast track for career advancement and I owe it all to my investment in these three credentials. Since professional certification is so much more than just theories, you also get a hands-on approach and enough practice on how to deal with real life marketing situations, something that is backed up by the shared experience of other marketers enrolled in class as well as Morgan instructors.

Why Morgan?

When I first engaged with Morgan it was only based on good reputation and what I'd heard from others.  But I can definitely say that this first experience was enough to make me a loyal (three-time candidate) as Morgan demonstrated high professionalism and support. The Morgan team gave me full support during exam time and throughout the course, whether it was connecting me with the international institute or advising me on the right steps based on their solid experience.

My favorite thing about Morgan? The family feel. I've never stepped into Morgan without having the feeling of being in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Any other qualification in the horizon?

At the moment, I am quite stratified with my three credentials but I am always attending seminars, and on the look out for business and marketing-related workshops to constantly stay up to date with emerging marketing trends and market changes.

Her advice to marketers?

My advice would be to always invest in yourself and stay up to date. Read, network with other professionals in you industry, attend workshops and be present online. Always be on the look out for the next great opportunity.

Nivine's thoughts on marketing in Lebanon

Marketing in Lebanon is still considered, in many instances, a company expense rather than an investment and this approach hinders companies from grabbing important opportunity or gaining a bigger market share. I do think though that this mind set is changing and the marketing industry is slowly becoming a necessity and a must for the growth of any business.

Favorite thing about being a marketer

Market insights! Getting to understand customer behavior and what drives their behavior makes it a fun and exciting ride.

About keeping up to date...

I am always reading news and articles online and I mostly listen to people. Others' experiences can be of great added value, there's always a little something to be learned from every person you encounter.
