The idea of buying a product just because it looks great is slowly becoming a thing of the past. These days, consumers want to hear about the brand and they want a story behind the product. Stories tend to stir up emotions and emotions make us relate to a brand and brands which tell a story, end up with an audience who are more engaged and therefore, more likely to buy. These are some ways you can ensure your advertising stories stand out.

What emotions can you engage?

The first thing to think about is what you offer and how it can engage with the viewers' emotions. People tend to enjoy stories which make them laugh, feel optimistic or those which are heartfelt. It is important to consider your product or service and where it would fit into emotions. If your product is a soft drink, for example, it is more likely that you’ll want to have a humorous advertising story. Whereas, if it is a travel service, you can probably tie it up to optimism or a heartfelt story.

This advertising story from Airbnb is a perfect example of one which pulls the heartstrings and with 34K views and 336 shares, it obviously worked! Take a look at this other example from Google. We bet you’ll shed a tear at this one!

Keep it fresh

If you are going to start using advertising stories as part of your ongoing digital marketing campaign, it is important to keep it fresh and introduce new stories, wherever possible. Your audience will soon get bored if you are always churning out the same type of content, so make sure you understand what they want and how you can use your content to engage with them.

Real-time

Another great way to use advertising stories is to make use of real-time videos, especially on social media platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram, where the younger audience is spending their time. You don’t need to have any elaborate stories with this kind of storytelling, you can just give your audience an insight into your business and even show them around your offices. These examples of advertising stories work as your audience feel like they are getting to know your brand better, which makes them more likely to relate to you.
