So you’re ready to enroll in the CFA® Program and register for your first exam? Morgan has put together this simple, step by step guide to help you on your way.
Meet requirements
First you’ll need to make sure you meet the entrance requirements. You must have a bachelor's (or equivalent) degree or be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration*. Alternatively you must have four years of professional work experience, or have a combination of professional work and college experience that totals at least four years prior to enrollment. Part-time positions do not qualify.
Pledge adherence
As a candidate you will be asked to show you understand and abide by the CFA® Professional Conduct Statement and Candidate Responsibility Statement. You can read more about these online on the CFA Institute website.
Brush up your English
Before you proceed, be aware that the exams are in English. You won’t need to be word perfect, but you will need to hae the ability to understand and respond to questions in this language.
Get your passport ready
To register and be admitted to the test center, you will need a valid international travel passport. This is a global standard requirement that is strictly enforced, so make sure you have one.
Note exclusions
Make sure you are not excluded from applying for the CFA® exam, as residents from certain countries fall under restrictions. The OFAC Compliance Policy can be checked online at the CFA Institute website.
Check dates
Familiarize yourself with upcoming exam timetables and fee schedule deadlines that are available online – note that there are discounts for early registration.
Find your test center
CFA Program exams are offered in over 170 cities in June and over 70 cities in December, at testing facilities around the world.
Register
Create a CFA Institute online account and log in to enroll in the program and register for an exam.
Complete submission
You have up to 30 days to complete your enrollment by making sure you submit all required information and payment.
Receive confirmation
Within five to seven days you should receive your CFA® Program Registration Confirmation.
Access online resources
Finally, up to 12 hours after your confirmation email, you can go online and start accessing your candidate resources.
