Am I Qualified to Take the IQEX?

Your eligibility to take the IQEX depends on where you are in the world and which professional association you are part of:


Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA)

To qualify for IQEX, you must have passed the Uniform Final Examination (UFE) in Canada and be a current member in good standing with a Provincial CA Institute. You must also meet all the experience requirements by the application deadline.


Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)

You must have qualified as Chartered Accountants in Australia and be a current member in good standing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). N.B.: you must have completed the PY or CA program in Australia. You must also hold one of the following:

  • An approved master’s degree
  • A four-year approved baccalaureate or honors degree
  • A three-year baccalaureate non-accounting degree with completion of an approved graduate conversion course in accounting

**A three-year baccalaureate degree with an approved major in accounting **If you are in this category, you are eligible for the IQEX but some states may require additional education for licensure.


Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA)

If you are a QP Qualified Member of the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs, then in addition to completing the Qualification Programme (QP), you must have a degree accredited or recognized by the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs. If you are a member of the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs, but haven't completed the Qualification Programme (QP), then you must have registered as a HKICPA member on or before the 31st of December 2001 (and hold a degree accredited or recognized by the HKICPA).


Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI)

You must have qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Ireland, completing the Chartered Accountants Final Admitting Examination, and must be a current member in good standing of the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI). Candidates who qualified as Associates of the CAI are eligible for the IQEX. The CAI’s ACA qualification is equivalent to a master’s degree program and hence no further education requirement is needed. If you don't have the educational background needed, then you might be eligible based on your professional experience. In this case you must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully completed the Chartered Accountants Final Admitting Examination
  • Practiced public accountancy during five of the last ten years within your jurisdiction
  • Hold a valid license to practice public accountancy


Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Públicos (IMCP)

You must have qualified as Contadores Públicos Certificados (CPCs) with the Mexican Dirección General de Profesiones de la Secretaría de Educación Publica and must be a current member in good standing of the Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Públicos (IMCP). You must have passed the Examen Uniforme de Certificación de la Contaduría Pública in Mexico (EUC), and have met all the experience requirements by the application deadline. If you haven't passed the EUC, then you must be an IMPC member in good standing since September 27, 2002.


New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA)

You must have completed four years of approved degree level study at an approved tertiary institution (including a bachelor's degree and coverage of required topics). You also must have completed New Zealand's Professional Competence Program and be a current member in good standing of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. You must have met all the experience requirements by the application deadline.
